Presiding magistrate of a mobile court, Lateef Owolabi, has sentenced to one-year imprisonment an official of the Lagos State Task Force on Environmental and Special Offences (Enforcement) Unit, Moses Prince, for stealing a phone.

The 34-year-old Moses, who is a paramilitary officer deployed in the agency from Man O War, was convicted after pleading guilty to a one count charge preferred against him by the police.

It was alleged that the convict stole the phone, Phantom 6 Techno, valued at N150,000, from one Pastor Kingsley of Christ Church, Fadeyi, Lagos, during a raid on Ereko Street in the community.

According to the police, the task force had stormed the area to arrest hoodlums following the mayhem in the Idi-Oro area of Mushin.

The police told the court that, “after screening those arrested, a pastor that was released after proper identification complained that his phone was missing. When all the officers that went with the task force enforcement team were investigated, the accused immediately confessed and brought the phone.”

The spokesperson for the agency, Taofiq Adebayo, told the court that the task force Chairman, SP Olayinka Egbeyemi, had earlier organised a seminar to sensitise his men to the need to shun misconduct.
