Lagos promises continuous payment of WASSCE fee for candidates


The Lagos State Government has vowed continuous payment of fee for all SS3 students sitting for the West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE) in public schools in the state.

The Commissioner for Education, Olayinka Oladunjoye, on Monday at a press briefing in Lagos, stated that the government had already paid over N535 million to the West African Examination Council (WAEC) as examination and administrative fees for 42,995 SS3 students, who were currently sitting for the May/June 2015 examination in the state.

She said government was determined to ensure academic excellence through relevant and high quality learning at all levels by organising daily ‘after school coaching programme’ for JS3 and SS3 students as well as ‘Saturday coaching’ in core subjects of English and Mathematics for SS3 students.

Oladunjoye explained that promotion criteria and eligibility guideline for WASSCE examination registration had been stipulated by the government and must be followed to produce world-class students.

Her words: “The requirements include minimum of 50 percent pass in five subjects, including English Language and Mathematics; minimum of 90 percent attendance in schools and after school coaching for SS3 students; 50 percent attendance at parents forum by parents and the administration of screening test on students as acid test to ensure their preparedness for the mock examinations”.
