Six suspected armed robbers who allegedly attacked a female Inspector and collected her bag containing N50, 000 and other valuables, were Wednesday, apprehended by the Special Anti-Robbery squad of the Lagos State Police Command.
The unidentified Inspector, attached to the State Department of Criminal Investigation, SCID, Yaba, was said to have alighted from a commercial bus at the Idi Oro bus stop in the Mushin area of the state, when the robbers attacked her and snatched the bag.
It was gathered that the matter was reported at the Anti-Robbery section of the SDCI and 23 suspects were picked up from the bus stop.
The Inspector was said to have identified six of the suspects as the attackers.
In a chat with newsmen, the six suspects, Moshood Ibrahim, 27, Ibrahim Kamilu, 22, Monday Dahoof, 19, Ademola Adeyanka, 28, Tope Akinyemi, 34, and Opeyemi Abiodun, 28, denied attacking the inspector.
34-year-old Akinyemi, one of the suspects, said he had never seen the woman in his entire life. According to him, “I am a family man. I have not met the woman before in my life. I am a fashion designer. I was returning from my shop when the police waylaid and arrested me.”
A police source said the bag, as well as two Automated Teller Machine, ATM cards in it were yet to be recovered.
He said initially, 23 of them were arrested at the scene of the crime, but the Inspector was able to identify six of them; she thereafter reported to the SARS and the suspects were arrested.
Meanwhile, the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, DSP Joe Offor, could not be reached for comment as at press time.
