Renowned banker and the founder of Stanbic IBTC Bank Plc, Atedo Peterside, has condemned the lockdown of Lagos due to the visit of President Muhammadu Buhari.
He also berated the Governor Ambode-led government for shutting down the nation’s commercial hub.
The frontline businessman and entrepreneur stated that such does not happen even in developed cities of the world.
Peterside tweeted: “Today’s Lagos road closures are totally unnecessary and unfortunate. In the 21st Century, nobody closes down a mega city. President and Governor should simply have used helicopters. No right thinking person will close down New York or London or even Sydney”.
Similarly, former presidential aide, Reno Omokri, wondered why a state like Lagos would shut down for a presidential visit just for project commisionning and an event of a party leader.
Omokri also lambasted Buhari for “cancelling” a train project in the state decades ago but now back to open a “bus stop”.
“Lagos is aggressively looking for funds, so much so it jacked up Land Use Charges to ridiculous levels. Yet APC shut Lagos down for Buhari and lost the $250 million that accrues to its GDP everyday! I hope Ambode wont try to recoup the lost revenue by increasing other charges.
“To show how backward Buhari is, 34 years ago he canceled an underground metroline train project in Lagos then 34 years later he returns to the same Lagos to commission a bus station? It‘s like putting your ₦1 million in fixed deposit for 34 years and returning to collect ₦1000!”
He also posted and captioned: “These are the modern diesel engine trains former President @GEJonathan gave to Lagos. When they were commissioned, no public holiday was declared. But today, APC has declared a public holiday so that President @MBuhari can commission a BUS STOP! Take a moment to reflect on this”.
