The Lagos state government has started the demolition of shanties along waterfronts across the state, ignoring the court injunction restraining the operation.

Operatives of the Nigerian police led by some of the state government officials stormed Otodo Gbame community yesterday with heavy equipment, setting houses ablaze.

The state governor, Akinwumi Ambode, announced his intention to demolish waterfronts across the state a month ago and was issued a restraint order by the State High Court just days ago, but police officers and the state government invaded the community in full force, ignoring the order.
