Lagos hospital to shut down blood bank over improper separation

The Chairman of the Lagos state House of Assembly Health Service Committee, Segun Olulade, has expressed dissatisfaction regarding the operations of the blood bank unit of Gbagada General Hospital.

During a routine inspection at the Cardiac and Renal centers of the hospital, it was alleged that some of the acquired world-class medical equipment were being underutilized.

The Chairman, speaking after the inspection exercise on Tuesday, ordered the closure of the hospital’s Blood bank.

According to Olulade, it was discovered that screened and unscreened blood in the blood bank were not separated.

Commenting on the world-class medical equipment that are not being utilized, the director of the centre, Prof. Babatunde Olabode Green, said some of them were not functioning, either due to poor quality of installation materials or improper installations.
