Lagos govt to shut schools indicted for exam malpractice

The Lagos State Government has reached an agreement with private school proprietors to shut down any school indicted by the West Africa Examination Council, WAEC for examination malpractice.

The Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr Idiat Adebule while meeting with the private school proprietors said that some private schools in the state were serial offenders as their names appeared in WAEC list of schools that encourage examination malpractices for three consecutive years.

“We will not hesitate to shut down any school indicted by West Africa Examination Council, WAEC for examination malpractice.

“Such schools would not be allowed to register students for the May/June 2019 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE),” she said.

After warning the school proprietors, Adebule seized the opportunity of the meeting to educate the proprietors on the implementation of the Yoruba Language Promotion and Preservation Law, adding that all schools in the state must comply with the law.

The Deputy Governor also informed the proprietors that every Wednesday must be devoted to the promotion of Yoruba Language as all activities from academics to extra-curricula will be conducted in the Yoruba Language.

DAILY POST recalls that in February 2018, Lagos State Government made a law that makes a credit in the Yoruba language a compulsory requirement for admission into tertiary institutions in Lagos state.
