A Lagos State Magistrates’ Court, Ikeja, Friday, granted a N500, 000 bail to Esther Williams, who allegedly poured hot water on her neighbour, Mabel Enwongomfon-Umoh, who is a nursing mother.

DAILY POST recalls that Esther who is said to be in her late 30’s, had on December 24, 2015, emptied a bucket of hot water on the 27-year-old nursing mother after a minor argument in their rented apartment, leaving her with severe burns on many parts of her body, including her two breasts and abdomen and she had not been able to breastfeed her baby since the incident happened.

Following the incident, the accused was arraigned on one count bordering on the offence and unlawfully causing Enwongomfon-Umoh grievous bodily harm, in an offence said to be contrary to and punishable under Section 243 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, Vol. 44, No. 2, 2011.

While admitting Esther to bail, the Chief Magistrate, Mrs. O.A. Olayinka, said she was satisfied with the medical report that the victim was responding to treatment.

“The sureties must also show proof of tax payment to Lagos State,” the court said.

Olayinka adjourned the matter till March 9, 2016 for mention.
