Lagos APC Primaries: Reps members kick against cancellation of election results

House of Representatives members on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Lagos State have rejected the decision of the NWC to cancel the primary election which held in the state.

APC National Working Committee panel, led by Mr. Clement Ebri, on Tuesday cancelled the election declaring it null and void.

However, the Chairman Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, Mr. Tunde Balogun opposed the NWC and declared Babajide Sanwo-Olu as the winner.

Balogun announced that Babajide Sanwo-Olu, polled 970,851 votes to defeat Akinwunmi Ambode who polled 72,901 votes.

Member representing Kosofe Federal Constituency, Agunsoye Ojo, said the NWC made a “costly mistake” with the cancellation, noting that the election was free and fair

He advised the NWC to reverse itself as the result of the primary would still be the same if the poll is repeated.

“I don’t know the reason given for this cancellation, but the party must tell us.

“Even the Deputy Governor of the State came out to declare her support for the choice of the party, yet they are talking about cancellation.

“If you conduct this election 10 times, the result will not change; this is like wasting time,” Ojo said.

Another member representing Ikorodu Federal Constituency, Jimi Benson, told Punch that the primary was like a mock examination.

According to him, “You sit for a mock examination, your result is not likely to change in the main examination.

“This election went smoothly and the massive turnout of voters was a test of democracy in action.”

“This cancellation is unnecessary and if the election is conducted again, nothing will change,” Benson stated.
