Reactions have started pouring in on the conduct of Lagos State All Progressives Congress, APC governorship primaries which was won by Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, reportedly promoted by former Governor Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as one of the aspirants, Barrister Tokunbo Wahab has expressed his displeasure over the conduct of the primaries which took place yesterday at the Onikan Stadium, Lagos.
According to him, the primary election and the process that goes with it were shrouded in secrecy and unprecedented bare-faced irregularities.
Wahab said: “If the All Progressives Congress, a party in the forefront of the change movement could subject itself to a shoddy, suspicious preparation, what then is the moral justification for blaming INEC regarding the flop in the Voters’ Registration and PVC distribution in Lagos State?”
According to him, his position and that of 10 other aspirants have been consistent in the last few weeks from the various consultative meetings held. He said their position includes giving adequate notice to all aspirants prior to the primaries as provided by party and INEC constitutions and that delegates’ list should be provided to all well before time as well.
According to Wahab: “My agent did not receive the so-called list until the early hours of this (Thursday) morning. As at today, even as the charade referred to as primaries was going on, it was not clear if we were using the 20 LGAs or 57LGA and LCDAs.
“We made our position known to the national leadership yesterday and we only attended today to observe and possess proofs of various irregularities.”
Continuing, he said: “I can say categorically, that what happened today was not a primary but a pre-orchestrated drama. We shall be making our positions known to the party and INEC within the next few hours and we shall pursue this to a logical, legal conclusion.”
