The Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund, IMF, Ms Christine Lagarde Wednesday, met for about two hours with the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Governor, Mr Godwin Emefiele.
The meeting, which held at the CBN headquarters in Abuja, was reportedly used to discuss issues relating to the development of the nation’s financial sector.
It was also attended by Managing Directors of Deposit Money Banks as well as other top officials of the CBN.
Addressing journalists shortly after the meeting in company of the CBN boss, Lagarde harped on the need for Nigeria’s financial sector to channel more funds to the real sector of the economy.
She maintained that as the driver of growth in any economy, commercial banks should lend to the real sector and this should be done at concessionary terms.
