La Liga: Barcelona remain unbeaten after controversial draw with Valencia

Barcelona were held to a 1-1 draw at Valencia on Sunday night.

Lionel Messi’s effort was wrongly ruled out despite clearly crossing the line in the 30th minute of the encounter.

The fixture was the most keenly anticipated clash of the weekend, as it featured the top two teams in La Liga.

Barca dominated most of the first half and Neto fumbled Messi’s shot over his goal-line, before shoving it out. Replays showed the ball had clearly crossed the line, but the match officials waved play on.

The home side returned for the second half with purpose and took the lead, with Goncalo Guedes slipping in Jose Gaya, who fired in a low cross for Rodrigo to convert at the near post.

Jordi Alba rescued a point for Barcelona with less than 10 minutes left on the clock.

The results leaves the Catalans four points ahead of Valencia and eight more than Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid.
