Kwara: My govt not witch-hunting opponents – Gov Abdulrazaq

Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq of Kwara State, Thursday declared that his government was not out to pursue political vendetta against anyone.

The declaration is coming on the heals of the ongoing probe of the past administration by relevant government establishments.

At the forum marking the 10th Nelson Mandela Day in Ilorin, at the instance of Comrade Issa Aremu, a former governorship candidate of Labour Party in the state, Governor Abdulrazaq, said the enormity of the task at hand does not give room for either vendetta or pettiness.

Speaking through the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Works and Transport, Dr Garba Yusuf Manjo, the governor regretted that the story of Kwara State shared semblance with South Africa where late Mandela hailed from, alleging that while institutions serving the state are left to collapse, a tiny few shared the people’s patrimony.

In apparent reference to the ongoing probe of the past administration in the state, Governor Abdulrazaq said his government was not embarking on a witch hunt but to reclaim what truly belongs to the people.

He noted that though his government might be perceived as taking a slow pace, the state was on the path of recovery just as he promised to rebuild Kwara.

Governor Abdulrazaq, who eulogized the late former South African leader, told the gathering that the ‘Ise Ya’ mantra of his government was to resuscitate Kwara from the intensive care unit it found itself.

“Our story in Kwara has some semblance to that of South Africa. For a very long time, our people went through socio-economic and political haemorrhage that put Kwara at the lowest rung of development. People’s patrimony was shared among a tiny few while institutions that served the majority and the helpless were left to collapse.

“The March 9, 2019 ended all that and Kwara, I can assure you, is now on the path to recovery. Our pace may be slow but I assure you we will rebuild this state to the glory of God and the people of Kwara State,” he added.
