Kwara: Ajibola challenges Governor Ahmed to live debate on performance

The PDP governorship candidate in Kwara, Sen. Simeon Ajibola, has challenged Gov. Abdulfatah Ahmed to a live radio and television debate over performance claims. Ajibola threw the challenge on Sunday in Ilorin while addressing women and youths from the 16 local councils in the state.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Ajibola and Ahmed of the APC have been trading words over performance.

Ajibola said he was ready to confront Ahmed with proof of his contributions to capital projects and developmental initiatives in the state.

The PDP flag bearer said he was ready to prove that he contributed N1.5billion to the construction of the Ilorin Cargo Terminal, the International vocational Centre at Ajasse-Ipo and the Kaiama-Kosubosu highway.

He said evidence of payments such as cheques would be made available to members of the public for their appraisal.

Ajibola insisted that he had done more for the people of the state than the APC- led government given the fact that he had no executive control over funds like the governor being only a lawmaker.

The PDP candidate also said he was instrumental to the creation of two additional local governments out of the defunct Irepodun and Ekiti as an elected member of the National Conference in 1995.

Ajibola said government’s failure to provide basic infrastructure informed many of his contributions and interventions in community self-help projects in order to alleviate the sufferings of the people.

The PDP candidate said it was disheartening that social infrastructure have collapsed under the APC-led government in the state.

He also lamented the dire financial situation of the local councils due to the Joint Account system.

“I challenge Gov. Ahmed to point at any project executed by the state with over N3billion so far deducted by his administration from LGA Accounts in the last four years,’’ Ajibola added.

Ajibola also said all the state owned tertiary institutions were living on the funds drawn from the Federal Government intervention initiatives through TETFUND.
