Kwara 2015: PDP will defeat APC – Oyedepo

Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara, Chief Iyiola Oyedepo, has predicted victory against the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the forthcoming polls.

Oyedepo made the declaration at Isanlu-Isin, Isin Local Government Area of Kwara State, on Sunday at the end of the year luncheon organised for PDP faithful.

Oyedepo explained that a crisis resolution mechanism the party had put in place at inception made it possible to reconcile aggrieved aspirants with winners.

He also said none of the contestants had defected from the PDP, while others were joining the party to build up its structure.

“Though 300 contestants contested for 34 positions which generated its crisis, but thank God, all our people have united and agreed to work for all the party’s 34 candidates produced by the primaries,” Oyedepo said.

The party is fielding 24 for the State House of Assembly seats, six candidates for the House of Representatives seats, three for the Senate and Senator Simeon Ajibola for the post of governor.

The PDP chieftain tasked party supporters and residents of Kwara to shun immediate pecuniary interests, saying better days were ahead for the people if the party won the election.

“I appeal to everybody to look at what would be gained if PDP wins Kwara as benefits would be more to all than the individual becoming governor, deputy governor or state House or National Assembly member.

“There are many positions, opportunities in government for several people to fill just as PDP government would patronise more of local contractors, stop capital flight and replace white elephant projects with people-oriented programmes.

“The coming election battle will not strictly be fought on the basis of cash alone but by opening the eyes of the people and exposing the rot being perpetrated by the APC-led administration for 12 years.

“The battle of rescuing Kwara from socio-economic bondage would not be fought with guns, use of political thugs or tissues of lies but by information dissemination and sensitisation on PDP issues- based programmes to mobilise the people.

“Therefore, it is now work time for the individual and we should not rest on our oars that we have overcome the crisis that followed the party primaries”, Oyedepo said.

He also used the occasion to rally support for President Goodluck Jonathan’s re-election as well as the party’s victory in the National Assembly elections.
