Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso of Kano State on Thursday said he was happy he left the Peoples Democracy Party, PDP, asserting that he was satisfied being in the All Progressives’ Congress, APC, which he boasted had the power to defeat the PDP.
The Governor, spoke in Abuja while addressing lawmakers serving under the platform of the All Progressives Congress, at the House of Representatives after visiting the Speaker, Hon. Aminu Tambuwal.
Hear him, “Since we now have quite a number of aspirants, all of us are working very hard especially those of us (who moved) from PDP; we have a huge advantage,” he said. “There are so many people who are tired of the status quo. Status quo is not good for the country therefore we have to work together.”
While noting that the PDP had defeated itself, the presidential aspirant said, “All we need is to ensure that it does not rise.”
He expressed happiness for being part of the APC and thanked every other member of his party who joined in making the party what it is today.
Kwankwaso went on to speak on insecurity issues, including the Boko Haram insurgency in Nigeria and how it has to be addressed.
He noted that many people were kicked out of their houses due to insecurity, mainly because the areas where they lived were highly targeted places for the terrorists to attack and yet no one was doing anything stop the continuous attacks.
According to the Governor, everyone should have the liberty to live where they wanted and not to run away from their homes because of insecurity which should be taken care of.
He pointed out that in Kano State, the educational sector had improved tremendously with schools being built to encourage education.
While noting that education remains free up to tertiary level, he added that any student who scores first class or second class upper is granted an automatic scholarship to study outside Nigeria.
Kwankwaso went on to state that a school with Chinese teachers who taught Mandarin has been opened in Kano for teachers, adding that the teachers would leave for China in a few weeks to perfect their mastery of the language.
