Kolawole re-elected as Kogi Assembly Speaker

Prince Mathew Kolawole has been re-elected as the Speaker, Kogi State House of Assembly.

Kolawole’s re-election as the 13th Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly came through affirmation by 25 lawmakers of the House.

The member representing Ajaokuta I, Bello Abdullahi Balogun nominated Prince Mathew Kolawole which was later seconded by Alfa Mohomoh Rabiu, member representing Ankpa II.

DAILY POST reports that all the members of the seventh Assembly are members of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In other positions, Ahmed Mohammed ( Ankpa I) was elected as the Deputy Speaker, while Bello Abdullahi Balogun ( Ajaokuta) retains his position as the Majority Leader.

Ndakwo Idris of (Lokoja II) was elected Deputy Majority Leader, Mukta Bajeh (Okehi) Chief Whip and Ododo Moses of Dekina Biraidu was elected as Deputy Chief Whip.

In his acceptance speech, the Speaker, Prince Mathew Kolawole thanked the State Governor for his unalloyed support towards the progress of the Assembly.

Kolawole promised not to let his colleagues down just as he appealed to his colleagues to extend hands of fellowship towards the success of the seventh Assembly.

He called on all members to embrace tolerance, peace and harmony towards making good laws that will bring development to Kogi State.

Earlier in his inaugural speech, the Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello while relying on section 105 subsection 3 of the 1999 constitution to issue a proclamation for the first legislative sitting of the house said the day was historic, assuring Kogite that the current lawmakers will not betray the trust of the people.

Bello said the people voted overwhelmingly and convincingly for APC and that as part of efforts to provide good governance for the people, his administration remains committed to realizing a better Kogi state.

According to him, since the inauguration of the new direction government, they have always spoken with one voice which was highly demonstrated during the last election.

He urged all the members not to forget their electorate and constituency saying “the sixth Assembly was wonderful and all Kogites are expecting a better seventh Assembly”.

The Governor, however, called for the establishment of constituency offices by elected members at all levels in a bid to bring dividend of democracy to the grassroots.
