Kogi: Wada sets up transition committee


Governor of Kogi State, Capt Idris Wada, on Tuesday announced the setting up of a transition committee to facilitate the smooth handover to a new government come January 27.

He disclosed this while addressing Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, stakeholders at a meeting in Lokoja, the state capital.

According to Wada, the transition committee, which will be headed by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Olugbemiro Jegede, is expected to facilitate the transition of power on January 27.

He said the committee in a bid to ensure smooth handover is to work with a similar one setup by the All Progressives Congress, APC.

The Governor, whose four-year tenure will come to an end on January 27, lost his bid for a second term hence will hand over to Yahaya Bello of the APC, who was pronounced winner of last Saturday’s supplementary election.

Wada who vowed to contest the result of the governorship poll in court, said he wants to seek the interpretation of the law and relevant sections of the 1999 Constitution and the Electoral Act in connection with the election.
