The Peoples Democratic Party,PDP, in Kogi State has rejected the results of the supplementary governorship election announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
The returning officer for the election, Professor Emmanuel Kucha had declared Yahaya Bello of the All Progressives Congress, APC, winner of the election after polling 6885 votes as against the PDP which polled 5363 votes.
The party speaking through its agent, Captain Joe Agada at the INEC headquarters in Lokoja, the state capital, rejected the result of the poll, describing the exercise as a ‘kangaroo election.’
Agada also refused to sign the final result sheet of the election.
Agada said,“this election is a kangaroo exercise. How can INEC add the vote of the late Abubakar Audu to Yahaya Bello who just few days ago, was chosen to be the APC candidate.
“We believe that the tribunal will reverse this because it is not known in law for someone to benefit from an election he did not contest in.”
Further reacting to claim that James Faleke, deputy governorship candidate withdrew from the election, Agada said,“It is unheard of for a candidate to contest in an election without a deputy governorship candidate. It is illegal. Faleke had gone public to say he won’t be participating in the supplementary election, only for Yahaya Bello to contest the election without a running mate.”
