A Group, Centre for Social Justice, Equity and Transparency (CESJET) has said it was uncharitable to the Nigeria’s Judicial arm that has done so much in protecting the nation’s democracy for anyone to accuse it of corruption in the controversial Kogi election.
At a Press briefing in Abuja on Monday, Executive Secretary of the Centre, Mr. Isaac Ikpa while reacting to news alleging Aisha Buhari’s complicity in the Kogi State Election Tribunal, calls for caution when it comes to legal issues, saying, allegations are as sick as they are false.
“In view of our belief in Justice and equity, our attention has been drawn to news making the rounds that the wife of President Buhari, Mrs Aisha Buhari has brokered a deal to buy the Kogi State Election Petitions Tribunal and we want to say it is false”, the group said.
It said that any case within the realm of Judiciary has gone beyond any political intervention, and that such was the case of Alhaji Yahaya Bello, hence, it was impossible for Mrs Aisha Bello to intervene at that level as rumour peddlers would want the public to believe.
“We hold no brief for anything, save for the sake of Justice, but when sufficient thoughts are given to the import of this development, everyone who truly loves Nigeria will see reasons to make interventions and that is what we are doing,” the group noted.
The group reminded Nigerians that judgments of Tribunals involving electoral matters in Abia, Akwa Ibom, Rivers and others were a reflection of equity and fairness that commands respect for the judiciary, while urging all to have confidence in the same Judiciary as it affects Kogi and other states of the Federation.
They advised Kogi politicians not to curry attention by maligning who ordinarily does not have any stake in the state, pointing that the present administration’s stance on corruption was enough proof that no body can manipulate the Judicial system.
“We, therefore, advise those behind this abominable campaign that Kogi is just one of Nigeria’s 36 states and Kogi Politicians by now have seen the stance of this government with regards to corruption fight which makes it impossible to arm twist the judiciary,” they maintained.
