The member representing Ankpa II State Constituency, Hon. Alfa Momoh Rabiu has fingered the Kogi State Executive over the crisis rocking the State House of Assembly.
Speaking exclusively with DAILY POST at the National Assembly, when the factional Speaker, Momoh Jimoh led 15 members on a visit to the Speaker of Federal House of Representatives, Rabiu described the crisis as most unfortunate.
He stated that it would deny them quality representation of their various constituencies.
“My concern is about the people we are representing and the State; it is obvious that we are losing opportunities of representation of our people for now, because the situation is no longer calm”, he lamented.
He identified tribal and personal interest other than political as factors militating against stability of the Legislative arm of government in the state, noting that the interference of executive into the affairs of the Assembly had introduced a very dangerous dimension that required the intervention of National Assembly.
“The leadership of the Assembly is in the hands of members, but apart from political interest, tribal and personal interest come from outside the Assembly, particularly the Executive arm. If not, how can five members impeach the Speaker when fifteen members are behind him?”, he asked.
According to him: “There was a kangaroo arrangement by 5 members, who sat illegally despite the fact that power of proclamation lies with the Speaker, which means they were not supposed to sit ab initio; to worsen the situation, the purported new Speaker was inaugurated in the office of Deputy Governor.”
He was optimistic that the National Assembly, particularly the House of Representatives would invoke the appropriate sections of the Constitution to save the state from further chaos.
