The Kogi State police command has arrested two suspected kidnappers and rescued a victim identified as Sunday Amupitan, who was bound and dumped in a car booth.
The victim was said to have been abducted from his Surulere, Kabba residence on the 19th of July, tied up and dumped in the booth of a Honda car.
A statement from the Kogi State police command Public Relations Officer, William Aya said that “on the 19th of July, 2017 at about 2230hrs, the police while acting on a distress call discovered that some suspected hoodlums have abducted one Sunday Amupitan ‘M’ of Surulere Quarters, KABBA LGA of Kogi State.”
Aya said operatives from Kabba Division, led by the DPO, “promptly moved to the scene while the suspects were racing away from the scene in a Honda Accord Vehicle with Reg. No. APP 444 DA, the Police patrol team pursued the hoodlums.”
Aya, an Assistant Superintendent of Police said that in a bid to escape arrest, the hoodlums hit three motorcyclists, then abandoned their vehicle and fled.
According to him, “the Area Commander Kabba led a team of personnel in combing the scene for clue of identity of suspects at large, in which a mobile phone belonging to one of the kidnappers was recovered.”
He said that “quick analysis of the phone led to the arrest of one of the suspects named Ayodele, Male, aged 30yrs of Garupa street Kabba.”
“On interrogation, suspect confessed to being a member of the kidnappers,” Aya said.
He said that the arrested suspect also listed other members of the syndicate of five.
According to him, “Further investigation led to the arrest of another suspect named Tunde Emmanuel, Male, alias Eleje of Odo-Ofin Kabba.
He said that the victim was rescued from the booth of the vehicle where he was bound and dumped.
“Efforts is ongoing to track and arrest the fleeing suspects. Suspects will be arraigned in court on completion of investigation,” he added.
He said that the Kogi State Police Command would not relent in its determined efforts to rid the State of crime and criminality, through a proactive crime preventing strategies adopted in ensuring that citizens were safe and criminality curtailed.
