Some delegates to the just concluded Kogi State PDP governorship primaries have commended the Chairman of the Electoral Panel, Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State and his members for the peaceful, orderly and transparent conduct of the exercise in the state, saying that it was a mark of a new dawn for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The Enugu State Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi had on Monday led a five-man electoral panel from the National Leadership of the PDP to Kogi State to organize the keenly contested primaries which was won by the incumbent governor of the state, Capt. Idris Ichalla Wada. Governor Wada scored 709 votes out of the 858 votes cast to defeat his main challenger, Alh. Jibrin Isah (popularly known as Echocho), who scored 139 votes. Alh.
It was gathered that Isah, midway into counting of the votes embraced Gov. Wada and congratulated him.
The delegates who were reacting to the outcome of the primaries noted that it ended peacefully, devoid of rancor or any form of manipulation due to the commitment of members of the electoral panel headed by Gov. Ugwuanyi.
They said that the guber primary election was a true reflection of the wishes of the delegates and the PDP family in the state, adding that such keenly contested primaries where the loser, midway into the counting of votes, embraced the winner and pledged to work for the party’s victory at the general election was a rare positive incident in the annals of party politics in the country and a sign that the exercise was credible and transparent.
Speaking to journalists after the declaration of the result, one of the delegates, Mohammed Ade said that “if not for the proper coordination of the primaries and the uncommon disposition of the Chairman of the Electoral Panel, Gov. Ugwuanyi who painstakingly stood under the sun here with us to monitor the entire process till the result was announced, the story would have changed by now”.
Another delegate, Dauda Adedoke, praised the Enugu State governor for his simplicity and spirit of dedication to service which he said was “marvelous”, and expressed optimism that the outcome of the primaries will secure a resounding victory for the PDP on November 21.
