The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has been accused by a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Kogi State, Alhaji Abdulkadir Ahmed, of being behind the protest that rocked the APC national headquarters of the party on Wednesday last week by a group of youths from Kogi State.
It will be recalled that a group of Kogi youths had on Wednesday staged a protest at the APC national secretariat in Abuja where they insisted that Prince Abubakar Audu must first clear himself of the N11 billion corruption charges with the EFCC, before seeking to become governor again.
However, Ahmed, while speaking with journalists in Abuja on Sunday, said the protest was staged by those he described as miscreants and orchestrated by few PDP elements to destabilise the APC ahead of the governorship election in the State.
He described the development as ‘distraction’, adding that the sponsors of the protest were jittery over Audu’s emergence following his overwhelming acceptance and endorsement by the people of Kogi State ahead of the election.
Ahmed had raised the alarm days before the APC primaries in Kogi State that no fewer than 15 of the aspirants that contested the governorship primaries were sponsored by the PDP so as to distabilise the party.
“We know these strange political bedfellows that contested for the party’s ticket and failed woefully will not relent on their unquenchable dubious intentions.
“They are licking their wounds following huge resources committed towards the failed project.”
Ahmed said the issue of corruption raised against Audu was absolute mischievous and nonsensical, adding that those against the former governor are being myopic and shamelessly displaying the highest level of stupidity.
The APC chieftain described Audu’s case with the EFCC as a mere political persecution.
“But it is still on record that Audu has contested four different elections since 2007 and was not disqualified. He contested in 2003, 2007 and 2011. So what are they talking about now? Are they just being mischievous?,” he queried.
