Kogi Guber: PDP says no automatic ticket for incumbent Wada, other aspirants

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), says it will not offer automatic ticket to any aspirant in the November 21 governorship election in Kogi.

The National Organising Secretary, of the party, Abubakar Mustapha, announced this when he briefed newsmen after the National Working Committee (NWC), meeting in Abuja on Wednesday.

Mustapha said the party would not impose any candidate on the people and credible people would be used to conduct the party’s primaries.

“Kogi state is PDP and we are ready to retain the state. We have found it necessary to conduct free, fair and credible primaries.

“We appeal to all, especially our teeming supporters in Kogi, to go about the primaries in peaceful manner’’, he said. According to Mustapha, the party has fixed Aug. 17 to Aug. 24 for the sales and return of nomination forms for Kogi election, while screening of gubernatorial aspirants is on Aug. 27.

He explained that ward congresses for the election of three ad hoc delegates for the state would take place on Sept. 3 as against state congress for gubernatorial primary on Aug. 10.

On Edo governorship election, Mustapha said sales and return of completed nomination forms had been scheduled for Sept. 1 to Sept.9, while ward congresses for election of ward executives is Sept. 12.

He said the party in Edo had informed the NWC that the state, local and wards executives tenure would expire in September.

The organising secretary said local government congresses for election of local government executive members and national delegates would be Sept. 16. He said, however, that state congress for the state executive members would come up on Sept. 23. (NAN)
