Kogi guber: APC group berates former lawmaker over anti-party threat

The Kogi State APC Justice Forum/Buhari Support groups has berated Kogi West former Senator, Smart Adeyemi for threatening anti-party activities if Governor Yahaya Bello loses a return ticket.

In a statement made available to journalists in Abuja on Sunday by the group’s Chairman of Media and Publicity, Mr. Atekojo Samson Usman, he said the statement by the former lawmaker was unfortunate, noting that Kogi State needed not to dissipate energy much if the governor had defended the mandate given to him in 2016.

The group reminded the lawmaker that he defected from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), hence, the party would continue to watch his activities.

He said that the APC cannot afford to lose election to PDP which is waiting in the wings to strike at a slightest opportunity.

They expressed disappointment that the former lawmaker singled out the governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello for support while the party has many gubernatorial aspirants ahead of November 16 election in Kogi State.

“As a forum for justice of APC, we have array of aspirants and they must be Justice and equity for all the contestants ahead of primaries slated for August.

“The party was not built by any individual, it was a collective effort of all and no body should lay claim to having an upper hand in the APC in Kogi State, but all of us,” he said.

The group further described Senator Adeyemi’s utterances as primordial, selfish and ethno-centric, which is capable of disuniting the people rather than uniting them as the party faces election anytime soon.

They condemned in strong terms, the endorsement of indirect primaries by a faction of Kogi State APC warning that it would spell doom, if indirect primaries was eventually adopted.

According to them, the Forum would canvass for direct primaries for the contestants, noting that direct primaries would not only ensure democratic participation, but it is cost effective as well as a reduction in legal logjam.

The Forum urged the APC National Working Committee (NWC); and the National Chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomole not to fall for those canvassing for indirect primaries, saying that all the aspirants and the card carrying members of the party in Kogi State prefer direct governorship primaries.
