Kogi election petition tribunal: APGA candidate, Dr Akwu optimistic of fair hearing

The Kogi State gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, Dr. Goodman Akwu has expressed optimism that the ongoing proceedings of Justice Halimat Mohammed led election petition Tribunal as it affects Kogi State would set standard in Nigeria’s legal jurisprudence at the end of the day.

Speaking with DAILY POST after he was crossed examined by Alhaji Yahaya Bello’s Defence Counsel in the Court, Akwu noted that from the conduct of the Tribunal so far, he was quite satisfied, stating that Nigeria was a lawful and constitutional nation which deserves nothing less than strict obedience to laws of the land.

“I am quite satisfied with the way Kogi State Elections Petition Tribunal has been handling issues and you know Nigeria is a lawful and Constitutional country, so, we have to obey what the law says,” he noted.

Describing as a contraption, reasons he was challenging the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and Alhaji Yahaya Bello on the manner he was substituted when Prince Abubakar Audu died, he said, Bello was an aspirant and not a candidate as at the time of the elections.

“I know I was contesting gubernatorial elections with late Prince Abubakar Audu and when he died, the Independent National Electoral Commission ought to have ordered for fresh elections rather than giving credence to a contraption by bringing in Bello,” he maintained.

He added that Judiciary as the last hope of the common man would do justice irrespective of whose ox is gored, citing that decisions of the Court in Kogi elections petition would serve as precedence in future.
