Kogi attacks: Reps urge security agents to be proactive

Following incessant killings across the federation, particularly in Kogi State, where scores were killed recently, the House of Representatives on Wednesday tasked security agents to be proactive rather than reactive.

Moving a motion of urgent national importance, Hon. Emmanuel Egwu representing Idah/Iga!amela-Odolu/Ibaji/Ofu federal Constituency explained that there were spate of attacks by armed herdsmen in Omala local government of Kogi state with heavy casualties in the last two weeks.

“It is so sympathetic; still in mourning mood, on 19th of March, 2018, the Chief of Agbenema, his wife and twelve others have been killed with properties razed and destroyed,” he said.

The lawmaker further expressed concern that heavily armed herdsmen were sighted in two trucks at Ankpa, but alighted into the bushes when alarm was raised by indegenes who saw them.

While condemning the killings, the Speaker, Yakubu Dogara sustained the resolution that the security agencies should take proactive steps in nipping crisis in the bud anywhere in the country.

He urged NEMA to move into affected areas with relief materials, while a high powered ad-hoc Committee was set up to review herdsmen attacks with the purpose of finding a lasting solution.
