The two major political parties in Kogi state, the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have declared their readiness for the re-run of both the National and State Assemblies elections scheduled for Saturday this week.
The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, had earlier cancelled results of elections held in some parts of the state due to irregularity and violence perpetrated by some thugs and hoodlums during the Presidential and National Assembly as well as State House of Assembly elections in the state.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner,Professor Jacob Jatau, while addressing stake holders including representatives of political parties, various security agencies and the press warned that those who violate electoral laws would be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the laws enshrined in the electoral act.
He urged voters, electoral officials and party agents to conduct themselves properly and desist from acts capable of disrupting elections,
Professor Jatau explained that the re-run election which was initially fixed for June was later rescheduled for Saturday, 25 April in line with the electoral act that stipulates that all electoral matters must be addressed within 30 days before handing over date of May 29.
