Kogi state House of Assembly which was inaugurated on thursday via proclamation by the state governor, Capt.Idris Wada,has been engulfed by crisis as the minority All Progressives Congress, APC, members have rejected imposition of Principal officers by the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP .
Addressing Journalists shortly after they walked out of the Assembly Chambers, the 14 APC members led by Honourable Abdulmumuni Ibrahim representing Ankpa 1 constituency explained that the PDP members were trying to turn them to stooges by announcing on the floor of the House those chosen by Government as Principal officers without following due legislative procedures.
He accused PDP of patronizing impunity, pointing out that the party (PDP) was unrepentant in its usual lawlessness.
The lawmaker also advised the state government to steer clear of the Assembly as its involvement will not auger well with the people of the state, given the awareness that pervaded the electorate and the constituents.
Honourable Ibrahim therefore urged the people of the state, that irrespective of party affiliation, they should disregard the purported election of the Speaker and other principal officers as it was done without regard to the laid down procedure of the house and the constitution of the Federal Republic.
According to the spokesman, the Assembly presently has no Speaker or leadership as the APC is insisting on due process in the selection of the House leadership.
DAILY POST reports that trouble started after the proclamation and inauguration of the 6th Assembly by the Governor when a PDP member, Friday Abdul Sani, representing Igalamela/Odolu constituency rose on the floor of the house and read out an already prepared names of the Principal officers.
The APC legislators led by Abdulmumuni Ibrahim, representing Iankpa1 constituency who raised objection on the ground that procedure be followed was not recognized by the Clerk of the house.
After a heated argument without reaching an agreement, the 14 APC legislators staged a walkout, leaving behind the 14 PDP members.
