Klopp reveals why he didn’t hijack Arsenal’s bid to sign Aubameyang

Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp, has said that he did not try to bring Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Borussia Dortmund, because he will not find a place in his squad for the 28-year-old.

Liverpool were never linked with Aubameyang, who has scored 21 times in 24 appearances in all competitions this season, despite him being available for £60million this month.

But because of his relationship with the player, many had expected Klopp to swoop for Aubameyang, who he managed at Dortmund from 2013 to 2015.

Instead, Arsenal have agreed terms with the Gabon striker, who they made their top target after losing Alexis Sanchez to Manchester United.

“Auba is really a good guy. Of course, reading the newspapers, you ask yourself if all these things must happen.

“But in fact things are mostly not that controversial as they are presented. In the end everybody will be happy.

“In the first half of the season he also scored often although last summer he wanted to go to China allegedly.

“He is a great player but he does not play in a position for which we urgently need new players,” Klopp told DAZN.

Arsenal believe they have reached a £58million deal to land Aubameyang, who is set to sign a £180,000-a-week contract with the north London club.
