Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, has defended England and Manchester United captain, Wayne Rooney after the striker went on night outing and got drunk at the weekend.
The Sun UK snapped Rooney looking drunk after he attended a wedding party on Saturday evening while England were preparing for their friendly with Spain on Tuesday.
According to guests at the five-star Grove Hotel in Hertfordshire, Rooney was “paralytic” after partying until 5am.
“He couldn’t string a sentence together and was falling over like the ‘comedy drunk’ – no-one could believe this was the England captain.
“He was out of his head sinking glass after glass of red wine.
Rooney had been earlier ruled out of the match against Spain due to a knee problem sustained in training on Friday and was expected to remain in the team’s hotel.
Because of his action, the FA has resolved to ban players from leaving the team hotel overnight and respecting a curfew whenever they leave national squad’s base.
He has “unreservedly” apologised to interim England manager Gareth Southgate after attending the wedding and getting drunk while on international duty.
And the Liverpool manager feels sympathy for Rooney, who released a statement via his management company saying sorry for causing any embarrassment.
“He’s apologised for having a glass of whatever? I really feel for the players. “There’s a human being behind the kid.
“This generation is the most professional generation of footballers we have ever had. The legends drank like devils and were still good players.
“I’m pretty sure what Wayne did wasn’t so serious.
“That’s the life we live, under a (magnifying) glass and in one or two weeks no one will remember this.”
