Killings: Allah forbids protection of only big men – Cleric warns FG, security agencies

An Abuja-based Islamic cleric, Sheikh Yahya Al-Yolawi, on Monday, advised the Federal Government and security agencies to probe anyone found culpable of sponsoring killings in Nigeria.

The cleric stated that Islam had clearly stipulated that justice must be applied to everybody, whether the rich or the poor.

“There is no distinction between them in the eyes of Allah; justice must prevail. It does not matter who is involved; all stand equal before the eyes of justice”, he said in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja.

The cleric, who decried the rate at which people were being killed in the state, said that several lives had been lost since the beginning of the year.

He said there was the need for the Nigerian Army and the police to adopt a holistic approach to combat the killings, saying, “safety of lives and property should be given top priority by the government.”

“I want to use this opportunity to appeal to the government to put more efforts, to ensure the protection of lives and property, particularly issues of killings and kidnappings in Zamfara, Jos, Kaduna and other parts of the country,” he said.

According to him, societies with proper foundation of justice are usually societies that grow and develop, thrive and flourish.

“While on the contrary, where corruption and self-interest prevail, oppression and cruelty dominate; injustice everywhere, social justice fall apart; then sooner or later, negative consequences will also prevail.

“Obviously, when we have a very good social justice system, it can lead to a strong and just society, free from threats, poverty, terrorism, unemployment, kidnapping and all sorts of social vices.

“A society where everybody is accorded justice in a proper manner, irrespective of one’s feeling towards the dependent or the prosecution, is a society that thrives,” Al-Yolawi added.
