An Ebute-Metta Chief Magistrate’s Court sitting in Lagos State has remanded a 28-year -old Police Corporal, Aremu Musiliu, in prison custody for allegedly killing a mother of four at Isheri-Oshun area of the state.
During the hearing on Monday, the Chief Magistrate, Afolashade Botoku struck out the bail application for the accused while ordering that he be remanded in prison.
Earlier, while testifying before the court, the prosecutor, Godwin Osuyi, said he had filed an application for Musiliu to be remanded in prison custody. However, counsel to the accused in his application urged the court to grant his client bail on health grounds.
While ruling on the case, the Magistrate, Botoku ordered that the accused be remanded in prison custody for the next 30 days pending the legal advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecution, DPP.
DAILY POST recalls that Musiliu had on September 16, killed one Comfort Idongesit Godwin Sunday, and also wounded her husband, Godwin Sunday, with his official gun, AK 47, at Ijegun area of the state, at about 8 p.m.
Musiliu who is a corporal with the Nigeria Police Force and attached to the Isheri-Oshun Division was first arraigned on September 18 on a two-count charge bordering on murder and causing grievous body harm.
The prosecutor told the court that the defendant unlawfully shot the deceased dead with his AK47 rifle, adding that the offence is punishable under sections 221 and 243 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2011.
He urged the court to remand the accused in prison.
Consequently, Magistrate Afolashade Botoku ordered that Musiliu be remanded in prison custody for the next 30 days pending when the court receives legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecution, DPP.
