Kidnapping: Rivers Assembly calls for stiffer punishment in Amended Law

Rivers State House of Assembly has passed the Anti-kidnap amendment bill into law.

The bill sought to amend some sections of the principal law and add stiffer punishment, including demolition and confiscation of properties of any convicted kidnapper or sponsors of kidnapping.

Speaker of the House, Ikunyi Awaji-Ibani announced this after a robust debate by the House.

Awaji-Ibani said the new amendments will make kidnapping unattractive and less lucrative in the state. Some of the Lawmakers who spoke during the debates pointed out some areas that needed amendment, while others said the provisions of the law were in order.
