Kidnappers release 2 Chinese construction workers abducted in Abuja

The two Chinese construction workers abducted while on an inspection of a road project in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), have been released.

The workers were kidnapped on October 5 and had not been heard from since then.

The staff identified as Hu Kai, and Pan Xiang, working for China Geo Engineering Construction Company (CGECC), Abuja, regained their freedom last Monday. The Sun reports.

The report claimed that ramsom was paid by the management of the construction firm, but details were not available as at press time.

Pressure and manhunt launched by the Apo police team and members of the vigilante group in the communities led to the eventual rescue of the victims.

Police search team had on Monday and Tuesday embarked on an aerial patrol with one of its helicopter with registration number, 5N-KSH, which swept the vast forest around the Apo, Karshi and Wasa area before the victims were released.

The Police Public Relation Officer, Anjugurl Manzah, confirmed the release of the two Chinese nationals but refused to confirm or deny whether or not ransom was paid.
