Kidnappers of Osun State speaker’s wife remanded in prison


Nemesis has finally caught up with the alleged kidnappers of the wife of Osun State House of Assembly Speaker, Mrs. Muibat Salaam, as they are currently facing different legal charges.

The six man gang were arrested by the combined efforts of security men in Ogun state.

The juror at an Oshogbo Magistrate court, Habibat Bashiru ordered that the six suspects to the crime; Chukwududi Okereke, Ogbole Ochijile Elijah, Okonkwo Lucky, Chukwuma Osifo, Kaikine Mahan and Uwadiunor Philip should be remanded in prison for allegedly kidnapping Mrs. Salaam on October 9, 2012 at Ejigbo, the home town of her husband.

Detailing more on the enormity of their actions, the Police prosecutor, Mr. Elisha Olusegun told the court that the accused persons conspired to kidnap Mrs. Salaam contrary to Section 516 of the Criminal Code, Cap. 34 Vol. 11, Laws of Osun State 2003”.

For possession of arms, the Police added that the accused persons also committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 364(2) of the Criminal Code Cap.34 Vol. II Laws of Osun State 2003.

However, the defence counsels, Barrister Bode Babalola, F. O. Nwosu and Nnena Ngwu pleaded with the Magistrate to grant the accused persons bail with conditions, but she resisted their plea bargain, maintaining that the six accused persons should be taken back to prison. She later adjourned the case to December 28, 2012 for further hearing.
