Residents of Enugu North senatorial district have been thrown into deep fear and confusion as kidnappers fleeing from major towns in the South East seem to have found the area a safe haven for both their operations and hideout.
Not less than five persons in the last 2 weeks have been reportedly kidnapped in different locations of the town. The latest victim is Mr. Eloka Okafor, a popular dealer on power generator, who was abducted Saturday night.
According to reports, Mr. Eloka was abducted by gunmen numbering about four, who had trailed him to the gate of his compound after the close of business on the fateful day.
DailyPost gathered that the suspected kidnappers forced the victim into their vehicle and zoomed off to an unknown destination. It was equally gathered that they also made away with the victim’s personal car.
A source close to the family revealed that up till the time filling this report, Mr. Okafor’s kidnappers have not established contacts with his family who have been left in disarray since the incident.
“It is worrisome that the kidnappers have been holding him incommunicado. The wife is worried that the kidnappers have not contacted them to say what they want”, the source hinted.
Regrettably Dailypost learnt that when men of the Anti-knap Unit, Nsukka Urban arrived at the scene of the incident and demanded from family members the victim’s car number, it could not be furnished immediately to enable them track the car.
The abduction of Mr. Okafor is the second within the month of February. Recently, their was a failed attempt on Dr. (Mrs.) C.E. Obanyi who narrowly escaped being kidnapped from her hospital in the same month.
When contacted, the Area Commander, Nsukka Police Area Command, ACP, Ros-Arison Musa Halladu confirmed that the incident has been reported to the police and that the Anti-kidnap Unit has since swung into action. “We are closing in on them” the police boss affirmed.
