A 28-year-old man, Trust Bourdilon, among the six suspects arrested in connection with the abduction of four landlords at Oshorun Estate, Isheri, a border community between Lagos and Ogun states, has confessed to the crime.
Bourdilon said he inherited kidnapping from his father who was the kingpin of the kidnap syndicate.
The kidnappers had demanded N300 million ransom on each of them, totalling N1.2 billion, before they could be freed and they had reportedly called family members of their victims a day after they were kidnapped, to make the demand, threatening to harm the landlords if the condition was not met.
The six suspects were arrested by the Inspector- General of Police, IGP, Special Intelligence Response Team, SIRT within four days, Vanguard gathered.
Bourdilon, in his confession, said his father, who is still at large, is the brain behind most of the kidnappings in Lagos and Ogun states.
He described the landlords’ abduction as their last operation before their arrest.
According to him, the gang collected N12 million ransom for the landlords, but his dad gave him just N350, 000 as his share.
He stated that his father was the stingiest man he ever met, as he recalled a time the gang kidnapped a victim and collected N3 million ransom.
He said his dad gave him N300, 000, adding that he (Bourdilon) was part of those that ambushed Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS operatives at New Haven Estate in Igbelaju area of Iba, Lagos and killed one Sergeant Esemuze.
Meanwhile, as other members of the gang are still at large, the IGP team, said efforts were ongoing to arrest and prosecute them accordingly as the operatives had been working underground to get to the root of the case.
