Keke rider killed, 3 others injured in fatal accident in Asaba

A 22-year-old keke rider identified as Nnamdi Okeke in the early hours of Friday in Asaba, Delta state lost his life in a fatal accident, while three of his passengers sustained serious injuries.

Eyewitness, Doris Akhator who spoke with DAILY POST said, ” The keke man was on top speed early this morning from Abraka community in Asaba, heading towards Okpanam road when one of his keke tires pulled out, and suddenly crashed into a moving bus. He died on the spot while his passengers sustained serious injuries, and were rushed to FMC, Asaba for treatment. ”

It was gathered that in the past three weeks, there has been frequent accidents within Asaba, many of which involving keke men, taxis and tippers with no fewer than sixteen persons killed, and many injured.

A resident of Asaba, Bartholomew Ozah told DAILY POST that ” Keke riders in Asaba are terrible, they ride keke the way they like, hence you find them involved in accident often. It is very unfortunate that some persons have been killed, government should enact laws to regulate the workings of keke men in Asaba.”

But the state commissioner for Transport in the state, Mr Vincent Uduaghan, in a swift reaction said government was working out modalities to regulate the workings of kekemen in the state, particularly in Asaba, and its environment, adding that many of the keke riders were not trained after the ban of okada by the state government .

Policemen at the “A” Division who spoke to DAILY POST said, ” The victim who died was deposited at the FMC mortuary, and the keke has been removed from the road. “
