The Kaduna State House of Assembly on Tuesday approved the extension of the tenure of 22 of the 23 interim management chairmen in the state.
The extension is with the exception of the interim management chairman of Kaduna South local government.
The decision followed a request sent by Governor Nasiru El-Rufai to the Assembly, seeking the extension of the chairmen’s tenure for six months.
Alhaji Abdulwahab Idris, a member representing Ikara, seconded the motion for its approval, saying that the request was a straight forward one which the assembly should approve.
Alhaji Mohammed Dan Asabe, a member of the House of Assembly, also supported the motion to extend the chairmen’s tenure.
The Assembly announced that the governor had nominated Alhaji Mohammed Sulaiman as the new interim chairman of Kaduna South Local Government.
It will be recalled that the interim chairmen were appointed in March and their tenure was to have expired in September.
The day’s sitting of the House of Assembly presided over by the Speaker, Alhaji Aminu Shagali, approved the extension and directed the Clerk to communicate the approval to the Governor for further actions.
