Katsina to pay NECO fees for students – Masari

Gov. Aminu Masari of Katsina State has assured that the government would pay fees for students taking this year’s National Examinations Council (NECO) examinations.

Masari gave the assurance on Tuesday in Katsina, while he received the Registrar General of NECO, Prof. Abdurrashid Garba, who paid him a courtesy visit.

According to him, the state government will only pay for students that qualified through mock examinations.

He lamented that the government had been paying for over 45,000 students yearly, but only 20 per cent scored five credits and above.

Masari also urged NECO to introduce ways that would assist students to pass examinations legitimately.

“The management of NECO should come up with suggestions, ways and methods that will make students pass their exams legitimately.’’

The governor said that as an examination body, NECO “should do everything possible to add value to their certificate.’’

The governor said that the state government would continue to partner NECO as it had accorded high priority to education.

Masari advised the examination body to apply to the State Ministry of Lands and Survey for a parcel of land to build its office.

Earlier, the registrar general had commended the state government for its commitments in the education sector.

Garba appealed to the state government to provide a parcel of land to NECO to construct its permanent office in the state.

He also appealed to the state government to provide utility vehicles that would be used to distribute sensitive examination materials across the state.(NAN)
