Kano Zoo: Millions swallowed by ”gorilla” now stolen by ”armed robbers”

In a rather twist of Financial Crime, the much-reported story of Kano Gorilla theft of N6.8 millions from the zoo has taken a different dimension with the management of the zoo clarifying that the Money was in the actual sense burgled by thieves and not swallowed by gorilla as widely reported.

He alleged that the earlier story of gorilla was a fake story cooked by unknown persons to allegedly cover up the theft.

The managing director of the zoo, Mallam Umar Yusif Umar was quoted to have said that the zoo does not have a single gorilla and even if there was one, there was no way the safe could be broken by Gorilla to cart away such a large sum.

Umar said the money in question was outrightly stolen by either armed robbers or buglers.

He said, “This zoo you see here has no gorilla and that money was stolen by burglars.”

The Kano police Spokesperson, DSP Abdullahi Haruna, told DAILY POST that already, 10 staff of the Zoo, including the Accounting Officer, Lawan Dandadarin, have been arrested and detained and are under thorough investigation.

DSP Haruna said the Police Commissioner has ordered an in-depth investigation to unravel the actual facts behind the missing of the zoo money.

He added that, “So far, information collected from the suspects suggests armed robbery case and that of negligence and the Police Commissioner has said that no stone should be left unturned until we get to the root of the actual facts,” Haruna said.

Meanwhile, some concerned neighbours of the zoo told DAILY POST that the case was a serious one that required full government attention.

Musa Dan Hajiya said that apart from the huge amount they are making, which he doubts goes to government coffer, the zoo has gradually turned into a joint where young girls are allegedly taken to for fun.

He alleged that on many occasions, one would see young girls trooping into the zoo as a sex joint.
