Kano: What Ganduje will do – Govt speaks as corruption agency demands Emir Sanusi’s remo

The Kano State government on Tuesday stated that its position on the indictment of Emir Muhammdu Sanusi for alleged corruption.

The commission, in its recommendations, told Kano Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje to suspend Emir Muhammadu Sanusi for alleged misappropriation of N3.4billion.

The report revealed how companies it said were non-existent got hundreds of millions of naira.

In one particular case, the commission lamented that the sum of N105million from the Kano Emirate’s account was paid to one Engr. Sunusi Tijani, Technical Officer to the Emirate Council at United Bank for Africa (UBA) between 2014 and 2017.

The agency added that monies for cctv, travels, hotel accommodation, telephone calls, fuel, projects among others were either inflated, mismanaged or diverted.

Speaking to DAILY POST, Commissioner for Information, Muhammad Garba, disclosed that the next action the governor would take was scrutiny of the report and studying of its submissions.

He said: “The commission is backed by law and has submitted its report. Whatever they did is independent of the government.

“The probe has been on for a while but was suspended on the governor’s intervention. This was done to see how the records can be straightened

“Unfortunately, it wasn’t and the commission had to do its job.”

Asked to comment on the commission’s recommendation that Emir Sanusi be suspended, Garba replied: “The governor will decide”.

“He will study the report and the recommendations and whatever he will do will be in the interest of the Kano state”.
