Kano Rerun: Nigerians react, call out Buhari, INEC over supplementary election

As Nigerians await collation of results from Kano State governorship supplementary elections, reactions have continued to trail the process.

Reports had it that the process on Saturday was marred by violence, attacks by thugs and alleged killing of voters.

But, reacting Anthony Ogbizi Michael, a Deputy Inspector-general of Police earlier debunked social media reports of killings in Gama ward in Nasarawa Local Government Area of Kano during the supplementary election on Saturday.

DIG Michael blamed the social media for spreading the fake news. According to him, the story was the fabrication of the social media.

However, the Kano rerun has since stirred diverse reactions from Nigerians.

While some called on INEC to stop rerun process and cancel the election, others called on President Muhammadu Buhari to intervene.

Here are some comments gathered by DAILY POST from Twitter:

@Abu_el_Sadeeq: “Ganduje and APC I’m really disappointed in you. We don’t want Ganduje, you can rig the election but you can’t be governor for life.”

@HNNAfrica “Elections are supposed to be free and fair. INEC pls do the right thing Kano rerun must be cancelled and handled like Rivers state. The Kano rerun is not credible and has huge flaws. We are journalists, we know our mission, we will not be intimidated.”

@MrAyeeDee “Lol as expected, PDP lost Kano, now they have reverted to their default position, braying on Social Media, this time with the Kano rerun must be cancelled hashtag.Maybe one day, PDP will realize elections are won at the grassroots not on media.”

@Its_Abdelmalik “Yes the rerun in Kano is a disgrace to our democracy but dragging Buhari is a disgrace to your generation. I’m in my house come and drag me.”

@Yousuf_Sy “Regardless of who wins, the elections held in Kano State today wasn’t peaceful, it wasn’t free and fair.”

@Ozohu11 “If INEC doesn’t cancel this sham of Kano Rerun, the Certificate that would be issued will be Certificate of Blood and not Certificate of Rerun.”

@Sola2010Ade “With the clear pictorial evidence. I don’t think a sane man will say “Elections happened in Kano yest. Truly,INEC has nothing to count on the rerun elections in the state. Therefore,Kano rerun must be cancelled. I urge FG to do the needful. The people’s mandate cannot be stolen!

@Musa_Kalayawi “There’s no way to tell me Buhari doesn’t know what’s happening in Kano right now! If he chooses to let them do what they want he surely betray us, and now we truly know the type of Man he is. ”

@Mr_Goje “The ‘I don’t care attitude’ from Buhari needs to be studied. This man literally doesn’t care about anyone but himself. He doesn’t care if Kano burns. ”

@Areogunboy “When I told the Kano people two weeks ago that voting against the political party of the president they elected is a recipe for disaster, they said I don’t know Kano politics, some even abused me.Kano is not just a state to APC, it is their lifeline.”

@Jwone5 “The same Kano that gave Buhari about 1.2m votes with very “peaceful” voting process is the same Kano that is “raging” and struggling to conduct supplementary elections. It still doesn’t add up. Mr. Integrity is probably not aware of the situation too.”

@Sadmanbash “For those saying kano rerun was peaceful, May they have that kind of peace in their houses. Kano Rerun must be cancelled.”

@It_Musa “People should stop blaming president Muhammad buhari for what is happening in Kano State. He has made it clear to the APC members that he won’t use his Power to rig Election for them.”

@Arafatrogo “Whoever Say/Agree That Kano Re_run Election Is Credible, Peaceful And Successful. May his life in this world and hereafter be as credible, peaceful and successful as the election. If Trust Yourself Say Amen.”

@IamMooree “Facts only. At the end of the day Buhari is responsible for every blood that was shed in Kano rerun because his number one function is to protect our lives and properties. Anyone who tries to absolve him of blame on this doesn’t deserve God’s breath.”
