Kano govt speaks on Kwankwaso’s planned visit

The Kano government has declared that it would formally receive immediate past governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, during his planned visit to the state.

Kwankwaso, now a senator representing Kano Central senatorial zone, is expected to be in the state on January 31.

The senator last visited Kano in May 2015.

His planned visit has raised fears that Kwankwasiya supporters and Ganduje’s may clash.

But Commissioner for Information, Muhammad Garba, said the state government would welcome the lawmaker.

He said the current administration had received high profile politicians and other individuals, adding that the same treatment would be accorded to Kwankwaso.

The commissioner, at a press conference to highlight the achievements of administration of Ganduje on Tuesday, said the governor was known for his generosity and hospitality to visitors.

“Rumours were going on that the government of Ganduje will stop Kwankwaso from coming to Kano. This is not true.

“This administration of Ganduje is known for receiving high profile politicians.

“Everybody is aware of Ganduje’s history of honouring people, irrespective of status. We welcome Kwankwaso.

“Let him come and conduct his political activities. But what we will not condone is violence. We will not stop any politician to conduct his activities if it is peaceful,” Garba said.

The official restated the administration’s determination to complete the projects it inherited and the ones he initiated.

Recall that Commissioner for Rural and Community Development, Musa Kwankwaso, had condemned Kwankwaso’s proposed visit to Kano.‎

He said the planned trip was not only intended to spite President Muhammadu Buhari, but to also test Kwankwaso’s popularity ahead of the 2019 election.
