Kano: Gov Ganduje’s deputy breaks silence on ‘resignation’

Hafiz Abubakar, the deputy governor of Kano State has personally refuted speculations that he had defected from the All Progressives Congress, APC, to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

DAILY POST reported that speculations were rife in the state Wednesday that the academic and a Professor in Nutrition at Bayero University Kano, threw in the towel.

Abubakar has been under pressure from the governor’s loyalists to resign or face impeachment.

According to them, he had refused to shift allegiance from former Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso to incumbent Governor Abdullahi Ganduje’s, hence he should quit.

In an interview with Daily Nigerian, Wednesday night, Abubakar said “I have not resigned, I am still the deputy governor of Kano State.

“I am currently in Abuja attending an official function, that is the National Council of Education meeting.

“I will take decision on my political future at an appropriate time after due consultation with my political leaders”.

The Professor had in a petition dated 30th July, 2018 and addressed to Kano State police commissioner and copied to the Assistant Inspector General in charge of Zone I, and state director of the SSS, Abubakar sought deployment of more security personnel around him.

He said the state government had released funds to mobilise youths from the 44 local government areas to protest against his stay in office.
