In what could be interpreted as a deterioration of the cold relationship between the Kano State Governor, Dr Umar Abdullahi Ganduje and the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, the Emir has, despite being invited to the second term Inauguration of the Governor, stayed away from the event and without any representation.
All the five Emirs of Bichi, Karaye, Rano, Gaya and Kano were said to have been invited to the swearing-in and inauguration of Governor Ganduje, but as at the time of filing this report, only the Emir of Bichi, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero and his Rano counterpart, Dr Abubakar Illa were at the event.
DAILY POST reliably gathered that the Emir of Karaye, Ibrahim Abubakar II, was absent as a result of the sudden death of a member of his royal palace, Shamaki of Karaye.
Expectations accordingly were that Muhammadu Sanusi II, who is within the precinct of the city centre has no reason to refuse witnessing the inauguration ceremony of Governor Ganduje.
It is on record that the State Anti Corruption Commission has obtained a court order to effect the arrest of Emir Sanusi’s Chief of Staff, Munir Sanusi Bayero.
Although the Chief of Staff was said to have secure restrictions order against his arrest from a State High Court, the relationship between Governor Ganduje and Emir Sanusi is no longer a rosy one.
The refusal or otherwise of Emir Sanusi to grace the second term swearing in of Ganduje would no doubt open yet another critical wound between the duo.
DAILY POST reports that the Sani Abacha venue of the swearing-in is filled to capacity with supporters of Governor Ganduje, while all the three senators-elect representing the State of Kabiru Gaya, Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau and Barau I Jibrin and the House of Reps and state Assembly members were at the event.
Similarly, security has been beefed up all around the stadium.
