Kaduna: Religious bill a waste of time – Most Reverend Man-Oso Ndagoso

The Catholic Archbishop of Kaduna, Most Reverend Dr Matthew Man-Oso Ndagoso yesterday described the religious bill sponsored by Governor Nasir El-Rufai and presently before the State House of Assembly as a waste of time.

He advised El-rufai to maintain already existing laws and regulate religious activities accordingly rather than attempting to establish another law capable of causing chaos in the state.

Archbishop Ndagoso made this known while fielding questions from newsmen immediately after celebrating the Easter Monday with students of the Borstal Training institution in Kaduna.

For him, Pastors or Imams who share messages capable causing disunity or engage in any hate speech should be treated as common criminals and be made to face the full wrath of the law.

He said, “The bill will create confusion and disharmony, therefore our stand is that our existing laws are enough to deal with people who use religion, tribe or sentiments to create confusion, discord and make people to commit violence against each other.

“Those who use religion to cause violence should be treated as common criminals not as a religious leaders because the two major religion do not encourage violence.”

Earlier in his message to the students, Archbishop Ndagoso urged the students not to be frustrated by the present situation but to believe God for a better future.

He added, “No matter your situation, God loves and cares for you, no matter how bad we think we are, God does not and will not write us off.

“Just forget your past, turn over a new leaf and become a good citizen, God is always ready to accept you inspite of your shortcomings,” he admonished.
