Kaduna polls: Reps member vows to seek redress over alleged irregularities

The member representing Jema’a/Sanga Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Shehu Nicholas Garba, has said that the PDP would employ every legitimate means to protect the people’s mandate at the just concluded local government elections in Jema’a local government area.

Garba, in an interview with newsmen on Sunday in Kafanchan, regretted that the election, which would have been the best ever not only in the state but in the country, was compromised.

“We have a fear that this apparent attempt to compromise what was otherwise a very smooth and transparent process would seem to be consistent with what is being alleged to happen to transparent elections overturned by the government in power to have a result already predetermined.

“We believe this is dangerous, not good for our democracy and is not in consonance with what the government of the state and the country has always wanted the whole world to know,” he alleged.

The legislator harped on the need for strict adherence to due process especially during elections, adding, “We are supposed to be in the forefront of deepening the democratic process in our country, but what we have witnessed last night up to this morning (Sunday) is far from that picture.”

Also, chairman, PDP Stakeholder’s Forum in Jema’a, Mr. Edward Masha, said already, the party had written a petition to protect the people’s mandate.

Masha condemned the action demonstrated by Ward Returning Officers who did not turn up at their respective wards to collate and return results, adding, “Out of the 12 wards in Jema’a, only four wards had hitherto submitted and announced their results.

“PDP belongs to the people as such, the will of the people as demonstrated at the polls should be protected.

“The party at the state and local government levels had resolved that results must be announced at each polling unit and anything short of this would be tantamount to chaos which we do not want in our local government and state at large,” he said.

Masha assured party faithful who defied the rains and turned out en mass to vote last Saturday that their votes would not be wasted.

As of the time of this report, results of eight wards in Jema’a local government area including, Kafanchan A and B, Maigizo, Gidan Waya, Godogodo, Jagindi, Kagoma and Kaninkon were yet to be returned contrary to fake results going in social media.
